In these challenging times, many people are searching for stability, clarity, and a deeper sense of peace. This retreat offers a meaningful opportunity to pause, step away from the busyness of daily life, and reconnect with the natural calm, wisdom, and compassion within.

Held in noble silence, the retreat follows a balanced rhythm of seated and walking meditation designed to cultivate mindfulness, concentration, and insight. Through the practices of Vipassana (insight meditation) and Tonglen (compassion meditation), participants learn to meet their own experiences—and the challenges of our world—with greater awareness, courage, and an open heart. To support both physical and mental well-being, the retreat will also include morning and evening Qi Gong sessions with Master Winnie, offering gentle movement practices that help release tension, restore energy, and support the healing of body and mind.

Participants will be invited to undertake the Eight Precepts, a traditional framework of ethical simplicity during retreat. These guidelines—including refraining from eating after the midday meal—help reduce distraction and create supportive conditions for meditation. The retreat will also begin with a shared intention of compassion and altruistic motivation, encouraging participants to dedicate their practice not only for personal clarity and peace, but also for the well-being of others and the wider world. In this way, the cultivation of insight naturally becomes connected with kindness and care for all.

Throughout the retreat, Khenpo Tshering Chophel will offer daily teachings and guided reflections to support the practice and illuminate the path of mindfulness, compassion, and insight. During the retreat, participants will experience:

  • Daily meditation instructions and teachings
  • Noble silence to support deep reflection and inner stillness
  • Guided and personal Vipassana and Tonglen meditation sessions
  • Morning and evening Qi Gong practice with Master Winnie
  • Peaceful walking meditation in nature
  • Compassion practices and mantra recitation dedicated to healing and peace
  • A Peace Lamp offering for world peace
  • The opportunity to observe the Eight Precepts
  • A shared intention of compassion and altruistic motivation
  • A supportive contemplative environment held in silence

The retreat will take place at Triple Crane Retreat Center in Chelsea, Michigan, from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening.

Open to both experienced practitioners and sincere beginners, this retreat offers a valuable opportunity to slow down, cultivate insight, and nurture compassion. In the quiet of these three days, the mind can settle, the heart can open, and a deeper sense of peace can naturally emerge.
